The Journey Home by Radhanatha Swami
This memoir of a modern-day American Swami is remarkable. A Chicago-born teenager heads off to the caves of the Himalayas and onto other sacred places in India meeting renowned gurus along the way. The adventures in this book are sometimes so surreal as to be hard to believe, but those who know the Swami testify to their accurateness, which makes this story that much more enthralling.
The Journey Home is a cross between a (very interesting) travelogue and a spiritual quest-transformation. It is the journey from the external to the internal, and due to his sincerity and determination, it appears the young man, who is now a guru to many, was successful.
How can you not love a well-written, fascinating true story that has spiritual significance?
